The memorial was started in 1999 and was designed by Warwick Broomfield, the Association's Senior Vice President who is an architect. Warwick served in WWII as an RAAF navigator in bombers, he then joined the Army in the late 40's early 50's and was in 13 Field Squadron as a Captain and in the CMF troop of 22 Construction Squadron .

The memorial is designed to be a focus of respect for ALL engineers and those who served attached to them in whatever unit. 13 Field Squadron, who's area the memorial is built acts as custodian alongside the Association and its 13 Parks and Gardens Troop who are dedicated to the completion and maintenance of the area. We have made the memorial as a 'precinct', that is the whole area is dedicated to the memory of our sappers not just the central portion. We still have a lot of work to do.

The Bailey stepped wall is in place now, a new panel is going in at the top of the stairs this week (18/09/00 - 24/09/00). The panels will have plaques for the Engineer units (50 +) that have served in WA since 1907. The plaques are to be sponsored and will be mounted on the top chord of the panels. The outside brick wall of the classroom now has a bronze Corps cipher and 2 refurbished memorial plates listing 13 Fields WWI deceased & 22 Constructions Borneo deceased. Still to come are 13 Field Company AIF WWII deceased and the RAE VIETNAM WA deceased, then to follow the deceased of the 2/13th Field Company AIF.

The monies have to be yet to be found, the inner lighting will be done in October 2000 by the family of Jack Maunder in his memory. The dais has to be finished and the woodwork treated. The river rocks we recently obtained have to be set in and also the sandbags treated. We will lay another 1000 sandbags at the October work weekend to finish off the path edges and to terrace the far side of the area. Then there will be an entrance wall to the car park, painting of the inner colour patch, the gardens fixed and 2 bushes of rosemary planted each side of the path to allow people to pick a sprig of rosemary and place on the memorial centre anytime. The limestone centre piece will be done before ANZAC day 2001.

Please feel free to have a look at the Memorial, donations are quite welcome.
